Antique French Folk Art Painted Toleware Tray With Bread and Cheese, Late 19th Century

Antique French Folk Art Painted Toleware Tray With Bread and Cheese, Late 19th Century
Antique Tole Peinte Tray
A very usable oval tray made of tin. Hand-painted decoration with a central panel depicting a rustic round loaf of bread and a wedge of holey Swiss-type cheese atop a wooden chopping board and knife surrounded by figs, tomatoes, spring onions, radishes and lettuce.
Painted in a charming, folky, naive style.
The panel is surrounded by a reddish maroon border, and the lip of the tray is painted to emulate wood.
The tray is probably French in origin, but could quite possibly be Swiss and probably dates to the late 19th century or possibly into the early 20th century. Circa 1880-1910.
The tray is in excellent vintage condition with no significant damage and only very minor wear consistent with age.
Approximate measurements: 61cm wide x 50cm deep x 2cm high.
