Huge Soviet Landscape Linocut by Oldrich Semrád, 1970s

£0.00

Large Vintage Print Depicting an Industrial Landscape in Former Czechoslovakia.

Titled ‘Pohlad na Usti’ which translates to English as ‘View of the Mouth’ I am wondering if this is possibly a play on words as Usti refers to the city, now in Czechia which this image depicts Ústí nad Labem. The stylised river and its surroundings are somewhat reminiscent of a mouth.

With its powers stations and chimneys, this industrial view of this Eastern Bloc city is very much different to today where I believe it is now a port for cruising down the River Elbe.

Signed and dated 1975 in the margin.

Labelled verso with details of the artist, title and dimensions. There are also some official stamps present which make us believe it was possibly an official commission of the local government.

Framed and glazed in its original grey and white wooden frame.

Overall it's in good vintage condition, there is some water damage here and there which can mainly be seen on the right-hand side in the margin. This could be restored if desired or could be covered with a mount but we have left it in its original condition as this is our preference and the impact of the main image does detract from this somewhat. The glass is free from damage and there is some wear and tear around the edges of the frame. Please see photos.

Overall measurements: 172.5cm x 73cm.
