Elizabethan and Later Carved Oak Settle

Elizabethan and Later Carved Oak Settle

£0.00

A Large 16th Century Carved Oak Panel Converted into a Bench in the 18th Century.

Stunning carved back panel centred around lion and angel heads surrounded with geometric and stylised patterns of a pagan influence.

I would say the much older extremely heavy panel forming the back has probably been converted in the 18th or possibly early 19th century into a settle. This also seems to have quite a lot of age to it so I would lean towards it being earlier and it has been executed in an extremely complementary way.

Scrolling arms with storage under the seat.

Would suit a grand hallway.

It is in very good vintage condition, being this age there is obviously some wear and tear but it is an honest piece and has a wonderful patina. Please see photos.

Measuring 144cm wide x 60cm deep x 118cm high. The seat height is 48cm.
