Vintage Original Pastel Drawing Depicting a Dramatic Scene by David Azuz, 1960s/1970s
Mid Century Framed Pastel on Paper Artwork by David Azuz (1942-2014)
An abstraction of a chaotic scene, titled ‘Bullfight No 2’ I think the bull has got one over on the matador on the occasion, he is lying on the floor with is leg flailing in the air.
Drawn in a sketchy manner with quick confident strokes in black and off white oil pastels on dusky pink paper, the artist has managed to capture the dramatic scene with great energy.
Overall the piece has a wonderfully decorative feel to it with the colour palette of the artwork, paper and frame working well together.
The work is signed to the lower right ‘David Azuz’ and dated ‘1969-70’ It is also dedicated ‘To Carol Steyn’ a fellow respected artist and probably a friend.
Azuz, born in Tel Aviv in 1942 is where he also first trained as an artist he then moved to France in 1958 where he trained at the prestigious, École des Beaux-Arts and La Grande Chaumière in Paris (1958-1963) and remained there until his death in 2014. He exhibited extensively in many prominent galleries, mainly throughout Europe and North America but also globally and his works also feature in many notable collections worldwide.
Framed and glazed in a later, yet complimentary grey painted chunky wooden frame.
The artwork itself is in good vintage condition, with some minor wear commensurate with age including some minor discolouration and some rippling to the paper within the frame but no serious issues. The frame is also in good vintage order with some wear around the edges.
Approximate overall measurements: 67cm x 57cm x 4cm. The artwork measures approximately 58cm x 48cm.
