Vintage Original Oil on Canvas Painting

An unusually spooky depiction of a common artistic theme. Depicting a mother and child or possibly the Madonna and Child, with stylised, cartoonish, almost alien like features. This matched with the artists utilisation of a dark colour palette and the dark red background provide an intriguing surrealist aesthetic which is darkly atmospheric.

The painting appears to be unsigned but by repute was painted by Sheila Holland (1932-2012). Not much is known about the artist but she appeared to have been a sculptor too and there is currently a self portrait available for sale in another gallery listed on 1st Dibs as well as an interview in her Cornish home on Youtube.
