Antique Original Oil on Canvas Painting Depicting a Rural Scene

Depicting one of the most charming scenes I can think of, it draws you in and tugs on your heartstrings. A young lady in a purple dress with a lace collar is perched up high on the fence above a stile, whilst a young gentleman, also dressed well in country attire, is leaning on the gate. They are looking into each other’s eyes with great affection. They are in a beautiful countryside setting, a collie sat in the bottom left is also gazing up at the pair, in the lower right, there is a basket full to the brim with a picnic wrapped in red cloth, and to top it all off, the most beautiful pinky mackerel sky sunset above.

Painted in an accomplished yet rather folky style with true sensitivity and a great attention to detail.

Dating from the 19th Century.

Framed in its original and highly decorative deep-set gilt frame.

The painting is largely in great original condition with no areas of serious damage apparent. There is some minor wear commensurate with age, including some craquelure to the surface of the paint in places and also some very minor losses. The frame is also in similar good vintage condition with wear and only minor losses.

Approximate overall measurements: 75cm x 57cm x 9cm. The canvas measures approximately 54cm x 36cm.
