Large Jade Carving Depicting a Phoenix and Peonies

Large Jade Carving Depicting a Phoenix and Peonies

£0.00

Vintage Chinese Carved Jade Sculpture, 20th Century

In Chinese culture, the combination of the Phoenix (The King of Birds) along with the Peony (The King of Flowers) symbolises prosperity, a bright future and happiness. People often use decorations with these motifs as they believe it will bring them good luck.

The sculptor has bought out everything he can from this single piece of jade with the Phoenix intertwined with the peony plant using great skill to emulate movement.

On original carved wooden base.

A hard thing to date with great accuracy but I would date this piece to somewhere between the 1920s and 1960s.

It is in very good vintage condition with only minor wear and tear consummate with age and no serious problems.

Measuring 38cm high x 26cm wide x 10cm deep.

Delivery is £20 to Mainland UK. If you live elsewhere please get in touch for an accurate quote. The shipping will automatically be added at check out unless you select collection.
