Handwoven Silk Spiderweb Tapestry, 1960s

Handwoven Silk Spiderweb Tapestry, 1960s

£0.00

Mid Century Woven Spider’s Web Textile Art Wall Hanging

Lovingly made over two years in two panels. The first from the 1st of January 1963 to the 1st of August 1963 and the second from the 1st of January 1964 to the 1st of April 1964. The panels have then been sewn together.

Each panel centres around a monogram in the middle of a swider’s web in front of a stylised landscape of grass and big skies with swirling clouds.

Along with the dates one of the panels is signed ‘AW’ this can be matched up with one of the central monograms ‘ABW’. When you match this up with the other ‘TRW’ I think this must have been made by the artist to celebrate their own marriage.

Spiders webs throughout history have been used as a metaphor for the complex lives that we lead, some people have used it as a symbol for the decisions we make and others for fate or destiny. Either way, I think this work represents two lives coming together.

It has been skillfully executed by the artist and is beautifully made.

It is in good vintage condition with only minor wear and tear. Most of the colours are still vivid however there is some discolouration. This is mainly noticeable on the edging strip.

Measuring 321cm wide x 90cm high.

Delivery is £20 to Mainland UK. If you live elsewhere please get in touch for an accurate quote. The shipping will automatically be added at check out unless you select collection.

We also have some other thinner panels by the same artist. If interested please get in touch.
