Antique Sailors Folk Art 'Sweetheart' Cushion in Glass Case, Late 19th Century

Antique Sailors Folk Art 'Sweetheart' Cushion in Glass Case, Late 19th Century
Antique Folk Art Cushion
Originally would have been a love token made by a sailor on a long voyage and then gifted to their sweetheart.
A highly embellished example with a wealth of metallic sequins, glass beads and tassels on a dark blue background.
Inscribed ‘Good Luck’ in tiny glass beads as well as ‘Heart Gift’ along with the initials ‘A.N.’ There is also an anchor, a crucifix and a smaller heart depicted in glass beads.
Unusually, this example has then been mounted on a ruched pale pink silk backing and protected behind glass in a trapezoidal case.
The cushion itself is in very good vintage condition with only minor wear constant with age, the case has protected the cushion extremely well. There is some degrading and wear to the pink silk backing in places but this mostly survives well. The case is in good vintage condition with some wear consistent with age.
Approximate measurements: 27cm high x 24cm wide x 12cm deep.
