Enamel Advertising Sign

An art deco stepped shape and a vibrant canary yellow background. Three books in different colours are illustrated on the central panel with embossed decoration.

The black and yellow script reads ‘Nelson Libraries, Best for Tourists, C. Layer Agent. ’

A sign made in France to appeal to English-speaking tourists. Probably for the Nelson publishing house being sold through C. Layer. Bookshop.

At the bottom left, some smaller script reads ‘En Vente Ici’ which translates as ‘On Sale Here’.

Signed in the bottom right ‘Email, Ed. Jean’ which translates as ‘Enamel Ed. Jean. which denotes it was made in France by the Edmond Jean Enamelworks, Aubervilliers, Paris.

Dating from the 1920s/1930s period.

It is in good vintage condition, there is some wear which we think adds to its overall aesthetic, please see photos.

Measuring 65cm wide x 60cm high.
