An extremely charming early 20th century hand carved wooden rattle.
This is one of the most tactile objects in the shop right now. It really is lovely. It has a real handmade quality to it with the chisel marks still visible. It is of quite small form that would easily fit in a pocket but once you get it going it really is very very loud. There are lead weights inlaid in the end to keep it turning once you get it going.
We love objects like these here at R&B, can you imagine the history of this, being pulled out on the Edwardian football terraces or indeed by a farmer to get rid of the crows.
It is in good vintage condition, there is a bit of old woodworm that we have treated just to make sure and it has built up a lovely amount of patina over the years of use. Please see photographs.
