Bobbin Turned Rocking Chair in the Manner of Ernest Gimson
Bobbin Turned Rocking Chair in the Manner of Ernest Gimson
Antique Arts and Crafts Rocking Armchair With Rush Seat
There was another very similar rocking chair by Ernest Gimson made for his wife after a traditional Lancashire design. Other known makers include various members of the Brocklebank family in Eskdale.
This example has a wonderful, slightly wonky silhouette. It doesn’t appear to have warped and the joints are all very tight so it has been well made but in an irregular rustic vernacular style.
Dating from the second half of the 19th Century.
It is solid, sturdy and still very usable. There is natural wear and patina built up over the years that really adds to its charm but no real damage to speak of.
Measuring 113cm high x 55cm wide x 62cm deep. The seat height is 40cm.
