Arts and Crafts Armchair Attributed to William Birch for Liberty

£0.00

Antique Stained Beech Sussex Chair With Cane Seat c. 1900

An unusual chair, at first simple and elegant but on closer inspection full to the rafter of little design flourishes.

Unusual wavy slats with roundel details. Curving and scrolled backrest supported by bentwood supports. Unusual Curved armrests, turned front legs and stretcher and cane work seat.

Attributed to William Birch of High Wycombe by a leading authority of Art and Crafts chairs who also noted it was probably retailed by Liberty & Co.

It is in very good vintage condition with only minor wear and tear. It is a well made well thought out peice and despite it being elegant it is still sturdy. The original cane seat is also in great order with only some minor signs of wear.

Measuring 101cm high x 65cm deep x 55cm wide. The seat height is roughly 43cm.
