Rare Antique 19th Century Singer Advertising Mirror

£0.00

Late Victorian Advertising Mirror for Singer Sewing Machines in Bronze Frame.

I have scoured the internet and haven’t been able to find another example of one of these. It features the signature red ‘S’ singer advert, this version dates from c.1897-1900 with the lady in puffy sleeves and with the added words, ‘Simple, Strong, Silent, Speedy’. It really is a heavy, good quality item, they don’t make them like this anymore!

The image is sandwiched in between the thick bevelled edged glass and the mercury mirror backing. This all sits inside a simple solid bronze frame with integral hanging brackets. Wherever this originally was situated it wasn’t going anywhere.

It really is a beautiful piece that would suit any number of people, whether a sewing enthusiast, an upholsterers, a collector of antique adverting or anyone with an eye for design.

Condition wise the mercury back has tarnished over time (as is so often the case), I personally love this effect and think it adds to the overall charm of the piece. Where this tarnishing has occurred behind the central advert the patches have been made slightly darker. Also it is worth pointing out that the bottom right hand corner of the glass has been chipped at some point. This has then been smoothed over with a bit of silicone at some point so isn’t at all sharp and you don’t really notice unless you are inspecting it closely. Please see photographs.

Overall measurements: 67cm X 47cm.
