'An Idyll' by Maurice Greiffenhagen.

Originally painted in 1891 this is an engraving of the painting produced in London in 1905 by the Fine Arts Publishing Co. Ltd.

An Idyll was perhaps Greiffenhagen's most famous painting, and was the inspiration for D.H. Lawrence's book The White Peacock, who later wrote about the painting: 'As for Greiffenhagen's Idyll it moves me almost as if I were in love myself.Under it's intoxication, I have flirted madly this Christmas.'

The paper is stamped 'Burlington Proof'.

Still in it's original frame measuring: 99cm X 68cm.

Please see other listings for another romantic engraving in matching frame.

The engraving itself is in good vintage order, the mount shows some signs of age. The glass in the frame is free from damage and the frame has some losses. Overall there are signs of age and imperfections etc. but for us this doesn't detract from the overall aesthetic and adds to the overall charm as an interior design piece. Please see photographs.
